The wait is over, Lowellians. “The Invention of Lying” is HERE!

How long have we been blogging about this darn film!? Well, the official release is around the corner. FINALLY we get to see whether or not this locally filmed indie-ish feature will cut the mustard and bring movie pride to Lowell.

Ricky Gervais‘ newest comedy The Invention of Lying opens nationwide (and in the UK) this Friday, October 2. The City of Lowell was trying hard to get a special premiere event off the ground for Friday, but we haven’t heard anything official so we can only assume this isn’t happening. But no matter — plans for group outings are already taking place.

The LFC suggests the following:

1. Grab a friend or three and hit the theaters this Friday/weekend and check out TIOL
2. Let us know what you think. Thumbs up? Thumbs down? Tweets are encouraged! (follow LowellFilmGrl)

We’re big Gervais fans. Plus the fact that LFC co-founder Brett Cromwell may be seen in some key crowd scenes makes this premiere pretty darn cool for us. And by the way, for those of you who may not know, TIOL was filmed almost entirely in downtown Lowell and its environs. Hot spots included La Boniche, Lowell Memorial Auditorium, The Dubliner, and Market/Middle/Palmer/Central/Merrimack streets.

Here’s Ricky on theĀ Ellen Degeneres show last Wednesday. There was no dancing, but Gervais was charming and self-deprecating as ever.
