Middlesex Community College Federal Building
50 Kearney Square, Lowell (Assembly Room)

Our sincere thanks to everyone who came out to support the Third Annual Lowell Film Festival this weekend by taking in some superb classic cinema from the 1930s. Our film talk with UML Professor Todd Avery before Modern Times and Lowell During the Great Depression Q&A with Charles Gallagher before Grapes of Wrath were outstanding and well-attended, and even the final midnight screening of Tod Browning’s Freaks last night at Dharma Buns had a good turnout. We couldn’t be happier, both with the audience and with the wonderful volunteers who lent their time and support for our various screenings over the weekend.

With a sad eye, we bid another Film Fest adieu, and yet, so much more great film lingers on the horizon. Our film calendar over the next six weeks is literally bursting with screenings, and we will begin relaying those later this week, so stay tuned. First up, on THIS MONDAY NIGHT, is a screening of the acclaimed Independent Lens documentary China Blue, in partnership with UMass Lowell Department of Regional Economic & Social Development (RESD) and Middlesex Community College (MCC). Provocative, poignant, at times difficult to watch, the film reveals the heartbreaking truth behind the clothes we wear and the young people forced into labor to make these global products. For this event, we’ll welcome UMass Lowell Professor Emerita Jean Pyle, who will lead a discussion following the film — all are welcomed to stay for the discussion as well as a post-film reception (refreshments provided!) Our personal thanks go to Bob Forrant at RESD and Pat Demaras at MCC for arranging this event after our successful collaboration on our screening of Pray the Devil Back to Hell. Please come out and join us at MCC’s historic Federal Building for this special event!
