New Hampshire Film Festival Comes to Portsmouth October 15

New Hampshire Film Festival 2009

Not that we would ever try to steer anyone away from Lowell during one of the most exciting festivals of the year, but for those who prefer the art of moving pictures to the art of spoken word, the LFC highly recommends the New Hampshire Film Festival, which kicks off on Thursday, October 15 in beautiful downtown Portsmouth and continues through Sunday, October 18.

Now in its eighth year, the NHFF continues to grow in leaps and bounds, this year screening films in a total of five venues over the course of the four-day event. More than 700 submissions were received for 2009, and a total of 80 films chosen from that long list will screen, including the headliners Serious Moonlight with Meg Ryan and Timothy Hutton, Paper Heart with Michael Cera, and a film the LFC hopes to someday screen here in Lowell – Mystery Team, a comedy shot in New Hampshire by Manchester filmmaker Dan Eckman. There will also be plenty of short films, animated films and even locally-made shorts.

New Englanders are truly fortunate to have so many amazing film festivals in close proximity during the year, but with the SNOB Film Festival on hiatus for 2009, it looks like the NHFF is one of the closest you’ll get. So if poetry ain’t yer thang, by all means take in a day or two of independent film in Portsmouth.
